Introduction to Social Explorer

Introduction to Social Explorer In-Person

Social Explorer is an online tool that allows you to create maps, data visualizations, and download underlying datasets from a wide variety of sources, including the US Census, back to 1790, and the American Community Survey.

Social Explorer can help you answer research questions around income, labor, businesses, health, crime, housing costs, education, and much more; no specialized GIS skills required.

In this workshop we will cover:

  • Navigating the Social Explorer interface.
  • Creating interactive demographic maps.
  • Finding and exporting data tables.

Please bring a laptop if possible.
